Top 8 Ho Chi Minh Night Markets You Shouldn’t Miss

1. Xom Chieu Market

Ho Chi Minh Night Market

  • Address: Dinh Le Street, Ward 12, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Opening hours: 16:00 – 00:00

Xom Chieu market or locally nicknamed ‘200 market’ is an authentic Vietnamese traditional market nestled in the alleyways in District 4. Though it officially opens at 4:00 PM, the place is more like a Ho Chi Minh night market as it comes alive in the evening when all the lights are on.

Ho Chi Minh night market

Xom Chieu market sits on the historic riverside neighborhood known as Chieu Hamlet. Inside the market is the tangle of alleyways, it’s just a quiet residential area by day. But after sunset, it transforms into a bustling night market, with locals turning their living rooms into vibrant stalls. You can totally discover the night market on foot, by bike or motorbike despite the narrow alleys. However, I’d suggest exploring the night market with a local guide as the confusion caused by the overlapping lanes makes it rough to navigate.

Ho Chi Minh night market

What makes Xom Chieu special is its over 500 food stalls, making it a paradise for street food enthusiasts. Must-try snacks include ‘bánh tráng nướng’, ‘gỏi khô bò’, and ‘chè Việt Nam’, along with iconic dishes like ‘bánh mì’ and ‘phá lấu’. Many locals dine here for dinner regularly, highlighting the variety and affordability. Locals even call it the ‘200 market’, because you can enjoy a full culinary tour there for about 200,000 VND. Despite recent inflation in Vietnam, I think that this belief still holds true. Want to experience it with your own eyes? Ho Chi Minh night market

At night, Ben Thanh Market feels more local and relaxed, with sizzling food stalls and cozy corners serving coffee and drinks. If you want to see a softer, more authentic side of the market, visiting after sunset is the perfect choice. Despite its reputation as a tourist hotspot, Ben Thanh at night is also filled with locals sitting on low stools, patiently waiting for their favorite snacks from familiar stalls.

From the experience of several nights of me wandering in the market, I highly recommend trying ‘bánh bèo’ – small steamed rice cakes topped with dried shrimp, pork, and crispy shallots, served with a light fish sauce. The stall I usually stop by doesn’t have a clear name sign, but simply asking around for a ‘bánh bèo’ stall will get you there, as the vendors are always happy to point the way. Nearby, you’ll also find ‘Gian Hàng Cô Mai’, a well-known stall serving classic Vietnamese dishes like ‘bún thịt nướng’, ‘gỏi cuốn’, and ‘bánh tằm bì’. For dessert, don’t miss ‘Bé Chè’, which serves some of the best Vietnamese sweet soups in the city. Prices range from 27,000 to 35,000 VND, which is very reasonable and proves that not every stall at Ben Thanh Market charges a “tourist price.”

  • Opening hours: 9:00 – 23:00

Located in District 1, near the famous Pink Church, Tan Dinh Market is one of the city’s most iconic traditional markets. While it is a popular stop for visitors, the market retains a strong sense of nostalgia and local character, having stood in this area for over a century. During the daytime, Tan Dinh Market is surrounded by constant traffic, lively trade, and the steady flow of locals and tourists alike. However, Tan Dinh Market reveals a completely different atmosphere at night. As evening falls, the bustling daytime scene gradually fades, and the area begins to feel like a quiet neighborhood softly lit by small street lights.

Ho Chi Minh night market

After 6:00 PM, food vendors and small stalls appear along the edges of the market, transforming the area into a charming and low-key Ho Chi Minh night market experience. Unlike many other dining spots in District 1 that cater to tourists with higher prices, Tan Dinh Market offers affordable food and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a favorite destination for office workers and locals after a long workday.

One of Tan Dinh Market’s most well-known specialties is fabric. With a long-standing tradition of textile trading, the market offers a vast selection of materials in various colors, patterns, and textures at reasonable prices. When it comes to food, visitors should not miss signature dishes such as frog porridge, crab soup, pork rib porridge, and a variety of sweet desserts. 5. Ba Chieu Market

Ho Chi Minh Night Market

  • Address: Ward 1, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City

By this point, you may wonder whether there are any Ho Chi Minh night markets that focus on trading rather than being purely food paradises. After dark, most Vietnamese people rarely visit traditional markets, they prefer to stay home or head to supermarkets and shopping malls instead. However, Ba Chieu Night Market stands out as one of the rare places where lively trading continues well into the evening.

Established in 1942, Ba Chieu Market is among the oldest markets in Ho Chi Minh City. With its long history, the market retains a strong sense of tradition and local charm that can be felt the moment you arrive. Although the main structure follows an indoor market style similar to Ben Thanh Market, the outer areas of Ba Chieu Market remain especially vibrant at night, filled with small stalls and street vendors.

Unlike many other night markets that revolve mainly around food, Ba Chieu Market is widely known as a shopping haven, particularly for clothing and second-hand fashion. As night falls, the market becomes increasingly lively, attracting students and thrift shop enthusiasts searching for rare yet high-quality items at affordable prices. Vintage and Y2K fashion styles are especially popular among Vietnam’s younger generation, alongside casual streetwear.

6. Ha Ton Quyen Market

Ho Chi Minh Night Market

  • Address: Ha Ton Quyen, Ward 12, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Opening hours: 5:00 – 22:00

Ha Ton Quyen Market presents itself as a traditional Vietnamese market, yet it is deeply rooted in the culture of the local Chinese community. Often referred to as Dumpling Street, this food hub is one of the most well-known culinary destinations in District 11. Especially in the evening and at night, the area transforms into a distinctive part of the Ho Chi Minh night market scene, focusing more on food culture and nightlife than on conventional shopping.

Ho Chi Minh night market

As night falls, particularly between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, Ha Ton Quyen Street becomes increasingly crowded. Along its more than 300-meter stretch, rows of brightly lit food stalls often served right on the sidewalk or in family-run eateries, creating a unique and flavorful slice of the Ho Chi Minh night market, where food, culture, and community come together to reflect the vibrant Chinese-Vietnamese heritage.

The true highlight of Ha Ton Quyen at night is its authentic Chinese cuisine, with dumplings standing out as the signature dish that has made the street famous for decades. Visitors can find steamed dumplings, dry dumplings, and fried dumplings filled generously with shrimp and pork, paired with light, naturally sweet broth or crispy textures.

For a reliable choice, ‘Sủi Cảo Ngọc Ý’ is highly recommended by me. The taste, smell, and food decor rarely disappoint. The menu offers a variety of options for dumpling related dishes, along with other well-known Chinese street foods like pork bone soup and char siu. To complete the experience, their strawberry sugarcane drink is a local favorite, providing a refreshing balance.

7. Binh Tay Market

Ho Chi Minh Night Market

  • Address: 37 Bach Van Street, Ward 5, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Opening hours: 19:00 – 23:00

Binh Tay market, also known as Cholon Moi or Quach Dam market located in District 5, is one of the oldest and most important markets in Ho Chi Minh City. I found the Trails of Quach Dam: Chinatown Discovery to be a gentle introduction to Saigon’s Chinese districts, it’s a thoughtful look at the history hidden in alleys of Cholon. Built in the 1930s by the local Chinese community, the market reflects both Chinese and French influences. The French influence comes from the colonial period, visible in the arched entrances, high vaulted ceilings, and decorative tiles, which were considered modern and prestigious at the time.

Ho Chi Minh night market

When the sun goes down, Binh Tay doesn’t just turn into another food street. The area around the market becomes one of the most authentic local corners of the Ho Chi Minh night market scene. Instead of polished tourist stalls, you get rows of street vendors and pop-up stalls alongside the surrounding streets and alleys, selling everything from affordable clothes and accessories to electronics and household items.

Food here leans into Cholon’s cultural mix rather than a typical night market. You’ll find real local favorites like Hu Tieu Nam Vang, vermicelli with crab, Quang style noodles, grilled meats, spring rolls and rice paper rolls right outside the market gates. The smell of grilled food and fresh herbs fills the air, and red lanterns hanging around the market give it a warm, almost poetic feel that reflects the nightlife of Saigon’s Chinatown.

How to Get Here:

  • Taxi / E-bike:

Open Grab or Be and type “Binh Tay Market” or “Quach Dam market”. Most drivers know it well, as it’s a major landmark in Cholon (Ho Chi Minh City’s Chinatown).

8. Hoa Binh Market

Ho Chi Minh Night Market

  • Opening hours: 8:00 – 22:00

Nestled in District 5, home to Saigon’s largest Chinese community, Hoa Binh Market is a vibrant cultural hub and one of the major parts of Cholon, much like Ha Ton Quyen Market. Located just 4 km from Ben Thanh Market, it is near the central area and easily accessible by motorbike or car, with wide roads and convenient parking, even in the evening.

Ho Chi Minh night market

As night falls, Hoa Binh Market comes alive as a bustling Ho Chi Minh night market. The food section lights up, drawing both locals and tourists ready to dive into its delicious offerings. You’ll find everything from hu tieu mi (noodle soup), dumplings, and sui cao (wontons) to pork buns and a variety of traditional Chinese desserts. Small family-run eateries and food stalls line the wide aisles, creating a lively yet cozy atmosphere perfect for wandering, tasting, and chatting with friends.

But Hoa Binh Market isn’t just about food. It’s also famous for Chinese specialty goods like dried foods, mooncakes, sausages, traditional medicine, and ritual items. At night, the market takes on an extra charm, with shoppers haggling over incense burners, altar lamps, Buddha statues, and other Vietnamese-Chinese ritual pieces. The mix of mouthwatering food and cultural treasures makes Hoa Binh Market an iconic Ho Chi Minh night market with a blend of two enormous cultures in the same place.

Small Tips to Make Your Journey at Ho Chi Minh Night Market Enjoyable

1. Transportation Reminders

If you’re traveling by bus, keep in mind that most bus routes stop operating after 10:00 PM. Be sure to leave the market in time to catch the last bus, or plan alternative transportation to get back safely.

If you’re cycling or riding a motorbike, designated parking areas are usually available nearby. Look for official signs or ask a security guard to guide you to the correct and safe parking spot.

2. Keep your belongings safe

Night markets are lively and crowded, which unfortunately can attract pickpockets. Always keep your personal items close: use zipped bags, avoid placing valuables in back pockets, and stay alert, especially in busy areas.

3. Language barrier with the local vendors

Let’s learn some basic Vietnamese phrase to prepare for your journey

Aside from major tourist spots like Ben Thanh Market, many vendors at night markets may not speak much English. Using a translation app can be very helpful. You can also try learning a few simple Vietnamese phrases, such as:

  • “Xin chào” (Hello)
  • “Món này bao nhiêu tiền?” (How much is it?)
  • “Cảm ơn” (Thank you)

A little preparation goes a long way and will help you enjoy the food, shopping, and vibrant atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City’s night markets with confidence.
